A native of Dunkirk
Probably Worked in London prior to going to Düsseldorf (1712-1715), Antwerp (1715) - made Master of the Guild of St Luke in 1716, London (1719-1728) where he lived in Covent Garden,
He travelled to Rome with sculptors Peter Scheemakers and Laurent Delvaux (1728-1731), Rennes (between circa 1731 and circa 1734 ). These facts need checking.

If the dates given above are correct then this was painted whilst he was in Antwerp.
