Project for the equestrian group of Henri IV commissioned by the Grand Duke Ferdinand I, built on the Pont Neuf in Paris and destroyed in 1792. The project was realized by Giambologna and his pupil Pietro Tacca, while the base is due to Pierre Francheville and Francesco Bordoni (R. Bacou and J. Bean Florentine Drawings from the collection of Filippo Baldinucci. 1625-1696, Paris, 1958, No. 26). This is the only drawing with the horse-knight group inverted relative to the overall project is seen on the sheet Louvre Inv. 921 see below
A. Matteoli (Lodovico Cardi-Cigoli. Pittore e architetto, Pisa, 1980 No. 135) dates the group projects Cigoli between 1604 and 1606, whereas according to K. Watson (Pietro Tacca Successor to Giambologna, New York, 1983 ., pp 197-198) it is around 1608.
oOher drawings related to this group: Florence, Galleria degli Uffizi, n. 970F, orn of 865-868. 1766 orn. ; Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, No. 198 (see: Biblioteca dei disegni Vol XXIII, Maestri toscani Secondo del Cinquecento, Florence, 1976, No. 32, p 33; General Inventory of Italian Drawings Drawings -III- Tuscan XVI-XVIII centuries.. . 1560-1640, I, F.
